Child & Student Privacy Policy

At Wonderland Nursery & Primary School, protecting the privacy, dignity and wellbeing of children is an important responsibility.
This Child & Student Privacy Policy explains how we approach information relating to children and pupils who attend, apply to attend, or otherwise participate in activities organised by the school.
This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Safeguarding Policy.
1. Information We May Hold About Pupils
Depending on the child’s relationship with the school and the information required for legitimate school purposes, we may hold information such as:
- Child’s name and date of birth
- Parent or guardian details
- Emergency contact information
- Admission and enrolment information
- Attendance information
- Academic and educational records
- School activity information
- Relevant health or medical information
- Special educational or support information where applicable
- Safeguarding information where necessary
- Photographs or videos from school activities
- Information relating to achievements and participation
- Information required for transport or other school services
We seek to collect information that is relevant and necessary for legitimate school purposes.
2. Why We Use Student Information

3. Parent and Guardian Information

Parents and guardians should inform the school when their contact or emergency information changes.
4. Children’s Photographs and Videos

Where required, the school will seek appropriate permission before using identifiable images of children for public-facing purposes.
5. Respecting Children’s Dignity
We aim to ensure that images, stories and information concerning pupils are presented respectfully and appropriately.
The school will not intentionally publish information about a child in a manner that is degrading, exploitative, unnecessarily intrusive or inconsistent with the child’s welfare.
6. Access to Student Information
Student information is accessible only to authorised persons who require it for legitimate educational, administrative, safeguarding or operational purposes.
Teachers, administrators and other authorised personnel are expected to handle student information confidentially and responsibly.
7. Sharing Student Information
The school does not sell children’s personal information.
Student information may be shared where reasonably necessary for legitimate school purposes, including with:
- Parents or authorised guardians
- Relevant school staff
- Authorised service providers
- Relevant authorities where legally required
- Appropriate professionals where necessary to protect a child’s health, safety or welfare
Information will not be shared simply because it is convenient to do so.
8. Safeguarding and Child Protection
Protecting a child from harm takes priority where there is a genuine safeguarding concern.
Where necessary, the school may use or disclose relevant information to protect a child or another person, investigate a safeguarding concern, respond to an emergency or comply with applicable legal obligations.

9. Student Records and Retention
Student records may need to be retained for educational, administrative, safeguarding, legal and historical purposes.
The school seeks to retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary or as required by applicable obligations.
10. Parent and Guardian Requests
Parents and guardians may contact the school regarding personal information held about their child.
Requests may include questions about:
- What information the school holds
- How information is being used
- Whether information is accurate
- Correction of inaccurate information
- Concerns about photographs or videos
- Privacy or confidentiality concerns
Some requests may be subject to legal, safeguarding or other legitimate limitations.
11. Children’s Online Privacy
The school website is primarily intended to provide information about Wonderland Nursery & Primary School to parents, guardians, prospective families and the wider community.
Children should not be encouraged to submit personal information through the website without appropriate adult involvement.
Where the school provides online services or communication channels involving pupils, additional safeguards may apply.
12. Reporting a Privacy Concern
If a parent, guardian, pupil or other person has a concern about the handling of a child’s information, they should contact the school promptly.
